The Course Experience

DAY 1
Where flower are born - Farmlet tour

Step into the source of every great design: the flower farm. Wander through rows of seasonal blooms as Marisa shares her journey from suburban lawn to thriving microfarm.

You’ll see how flowers are grown sustainably on a small scale and begin to understand the true artistry of nature before a single stem is ever arranged.

DAY 2
Design with Intention

Learn the foundations that every professional florist relies on. From sustainable mechanics to the principles of ikebana, you’ll gain hands on experience creating wildflower arrangements with locally sourced blooms.

This day is about learning to design with intention and building skills you can rely on for life.

DAY 3
Unleash Your Creativity

Discover how colour theory shapes mood and style, then push your creativity further with a surprise design challenge.

Using unexpected materials, you’ll practice thinking like a floral artist, problem solving, experimenting, and trusting your design instincts to create something bold and original.

DAY 4
Collaborative Mastery

Your final week brings it all together.

Working as a team, you’ll design and execute a large scale floral installation, just like a high end wedding or event.

This collaborative project is your chance to see your skills and confidence bloom as you create something unforgettable.

From October 11 to November 1, we’ll meet every Saturday for half-day sessions (about 5 hours each), blending guided learning with hands on floral artistry. Each week builds on the last, giving you time to absorb, practice, and grow your skills between sessions.

Meet your instructors

Hi! I'm Jade you're guide, tutor and floral fairy godmother.

Floral Designer & Founder, Willow & Sage Botanics

I've spent the last five years in the world of flowers. From working the soil to designing large scale installations for weddings and brand events across Aotearoa.

My approach blends modern floral artistry with a deep respect for nature’s form, flow, and rhythm. I believe in teaching design the way I learned it: through hands-on practice, big ideas, and a healthy dose of experimentation.

This course is the one I wish I had when I started.

From Lawn to Local Blooms - The Story Behind Urban Floral Farmlet

Marisa's love of flowers has been lifelong, but growing them? That changed everything.

During the 2020 Covid lockdowns, Marisa found herself craving a new pace, a new focus,  something more hands-on and heart-led. After years working in journalism, communications, and marketing (mostly behind a desk), she turned her attention to her large suburban lawn and wondered… what if?

In 2021, she started transforming that grassy patch into a backyard flower farm. The idea bloomed quickly, and Urban Floral Farmlet was born, a tiny but thriving suburban slice of floral joy.

Today, Marisa grows seasonal, cottage-style flowers on a microfarm just under a quarter acre. She supplies fresh bouquets through local subscriptions, farmers markets, cafes, workshops, and more, always with the goal of sharing the floral love, one bouquet at a time.

You'll gain
